As promised in my earlier article on Effective Ab Exercises Men I’m going to share with you some of my unusual sources of protein.
Protein is without a doubt the best way to build muscles, burn fat and achieve our physical goals. But those results require that you only consume the highest quality protein you can get your mitts on. Remember, if your aim is to build muscle and get ripped you MUST consume 1 gram of quality protein daily for every pound of body weight you have. You should be writing these sources down and keeping your notes in a place you’ll see them every day.
First on the Agenda - Cod
Yeh baby, Cod rocks when it comes to unsaturated fats, there’s just 0.5 grams contained in every 100 grams! You can also grab your RDA of magnesium in just 300 grams of Cod. Magnesium provides energy while you train and it assists your muscles while contracting, lowering the risk of muscle cramp.
Cod is naturally high is sodium so watch out, but I guess you can’t complain since it is a sea water fish.
I highly recommend serving Cod with a nice big portion of broccoli. A study was undertaken at The Institute of Food Research earlier this year to test the effects sulforaphane-rich (such as broccoli) had on cancer cells, they found that when these foods were eaten with foods high in selenium (like Cod) they were 13 more times powerful than eating them on their own.
Another Unlikely Source - Clams
This unusual source of protein also contains over three times the RDA of the rare vitamin B12. B12 is used by your nervous system to work efficiently, and it also supplies the energy your body needs for the metabolism of carbs, proteins and fats. Selenium is also found in molluscs. If you find that your muscles become stiff after workouts its a good idea to get as much selenium into your diet as you possibly can as it relaxes your muscles preventing cramp.
If you have a cholesterol problem then clams may not be the best idea as they contain high amounts of it.
In my opinion, clams are best eaten with tomatoes since they are a good source in Vitamin C. Vitamin C increases the absorption rate of your body, allowing it to process more of the iron contained in the clams.
